Vibrato
Vibrato is of course used in opera singing. As far as I know, the point is not just to annoy me. Which it does. I don't think there is a point, except maybe that singing that way uses less air.
In pop singing, there is one standard use of vibrato: To extend a long note. The singer starts singing a long note in a normal voice, then adds vibrato.
I have no idea why this works, which is to say, why it makes the music better. But it does.
I have not heard this said or written anywhere, but Marvin Levine (a recorder player) came to the same conclusion.
The pardigmatic use of this is by Karen Carpenter. But the technique is relatively common.
Taylor Swift has a completely different use of vibrato that seems to work well.
